Grand Duke Aleksandras of Lithuania and his epoch

At the end of 2007, the Directorate of the Vilnius Castles State Cultural Reserve released a book titled 'Grand Duke of Lithuania Alexander and His Era.' The collection of articles consists of presentations from the international scientific conference 'The Culture of the Estate of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Alexander,' held in Vilnius in November 2006 to commemorate the five hundredth anniversary of the death of Grand Duke Alexander Jogaila, who was also the King of Poland.

The compilation features articles by researchers from Vilnius, Šiauliai, and Kaunas Universities, as well as from the Institutes of Lithuanian History, Lithuanian Literature and Folklore, and Culture, Philosophy, and Art. Contributions from researchers at the Lithuanian National Museum and the Cultural Heritage Center are also included. Foreign guests, scholars from Moscow, Minsk, and Poznań, present their research in the publication.

This book is an attempt to examine the personality and rule of one of the rulers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, starting from the international context and concluding with the musical culture of the estate. Alexander is the only ruler of Lithuania and Poland buried in Vilnius Cathedral.

The book should attract not only specialists, historians, cultural experts, and educators but also the attention of the broader public interested in the history of Lithuania.

The cover of the book features an image of Alexander Jogaila from M. de Mechovia's 'Chronica Polonorum,' Cracow, 1521
